OzCamps is made by Tireless Limit Enterprises in Newcastle, New South Wales. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

You can use OzCamps without an account

Browsing the map, searching, opening a site, reading reviews and saving places all work without signing in. Nothing you do in that mode is tied to a person.

You only need an account to publish something — a review, a photo, a track or a site suggestion — because other campers need to know who contributed what.

What we collect when you do have an account

• Your email address, to sign you in.
• Your display name, shown as the byline on anything you post.
• An account identifier that ties those together.
• Reviews, photos, suggested sites and contributed 4WD tracks that you deliberately submit.

That is the whole list. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no third-party tracker, and no data broker. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we never sell your data.

Location

Your location is used to centre the map on you and to measure distances. That use never leaves your phone.

A location does leave your phone in two cases, both of which you start yourself: recording a 4WD track, which uploads the line you drove when you choose to submit it, and suggesting a site, which uploads the pin you dropped.

While your phone is plugged into a car screen, it keeps working out distances in the background, because you are looking at the dash rather than the phone. It stops when you unplug. That still happens on the phone and is still not sent anywhere.

You can decline location access entirely. The map then opens on Australia instead of on you, and everything else still works.

Photos

Photos you share are stripped of their embedded location before they leave your phone. That is the default, and it happens on the device — the coordinates are gone before the upload starts, so we never receive them.

If you would rather keep the location in a photo you share, Settings has a switch for it. It is off until you turn it on.

We read only the photos you pick. The app has no access to the rest of your library.

What stays on your phone

Your trips, vehicles, saved sites, downloaded map areas and your app settings are stored on the device and are not uploaded. Delete the app and they are gone.

Alerts, and what we need to send them

If you switch on fire and closure alerts, your phone gives us an address to send them to — a notification token issued by Apple. It identifies this handset, not you, and we store it against your account so a warning for your state reaches the right phone.

Your quiet hours, your mute switch and which alerts you've chosen go up with it. They have to: the decision about whether to wake you at 2 am is made on our side, and a preference we cannot see is one we cannot honour.

Turn the alerts off and we stop sending. Sign out and the token is removed, so the next person to use the phone doesn't get your warnings.

Who else sees it

Anything you publish — a review, a photo, a track, a site suggestion — is visible to other people using OzCamps, under your display name. Assume it is public, because it is.

Reports you file against someone else's photo are not public and are not shown to the person you reported.

Our servers are run on Supabase, which stores the data on our behalf. We do not pass your data to anyone else except where the law requires it.

Deleting your account

Settings has a Delete account button once you are signed in. It is one tap and a confirmation, with no email to write and nobody to talk to.

Deletion is queued for 14 days so that a mistake or a lost phone is recoverable — signing back in during that window cancels it. After 14 days your account and the content attached to it are removed permanently.

Children

OzCamps is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will say so rather than quietly updating the date at the top.
